Chosen PCM: Sodium and Potassium Nitrate
We recommend using Sodium and Potassium Nitrate as a phase change material with the ISEC. Out of all of the researched materials, Sodium/Potassium Nitrate has the highest melting temperature as well as the highest specifc heat allowing it to absorb the greatest amount of energy. It also has very high thermal stability meaning it can withstand repeated cycling where Erythritol cannot. It is also nonharmful if accidentally consumed which is very important when using the material in close contact with food. The specifications for the 60% NaNO3 and 40% KNO3 concentrations are shown below [21].
